This passage is not about being saved, it is revealing to this man what his true attitude was and helping him to see what the issue was in his life. LORD Jesus is teaching this man it is not matter of fact about being good and following the law, it is a matter of the heart, who you really are deep down inside.
Luke 10:25-37
The Parable of the Good Samaritan
25On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”
26“What is written in the Law?” he replied. “How do you read it?”
27He answered, “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’”
28“You have answered correctly,” Jesus replied. “Do this and you will live.”
29But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbour?”
30 In reply Jesus said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. 31 A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. 32 So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33 But a Samaritan, as he travelled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. 34 He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him. 35 The next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’
36 “Which of these three do you think was a neighbour to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?”
37 The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.”
Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”
Is this your characteristic being ‘a modern day good Samaritan’?
< Open your eyes
He just saw someone who is in great need, instead of passing by he stopped.
< Open your heart
He looked with compassion, he took pity on him. Same thing could have happened to him. His heart was true, he love was neutral, he didn’t have prejudice, his love was Godly.
Operate with open eyes and open heart, no matter their back ground.
< Open your hands
He helped physically, bandaged his wounds. He wasn’t going to leave him by the road side. He took him to inn.
< Open your possessions
He gave whatever took to care of him. Every one of us came from GOD. We should be thinking the same.
< Open your time
What does GOD want me to do with my life? How does He would like me to treat others? Can you feel the needs of others? Some people won’t tell you they are in need. Sometime they don’t need anything they just want you to feel you can feel their feelings. That’s the beginning of healing for most people.
LORD Jesus said ‘go and do likewise’.
Do you fall within the category of Good Samaritan?
I pray that GOD opens your eyes, heart, hands, possessions and time to the needs of others, in LORD Jesus name, amen.
