We need to be afraid of GOD if we are living in sin. It’s a holy GOD, righteous GOD. Whether you afraid or not depend on your sins. If you are living in sin you have a right to be absolutely afraid of GOD. He says ‘The soul that sins will die’ ‘the wages of sin is death’ “Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment.” If you are living in sin you have right to be afraid of holy GOD, the one true GOD, His Son LORD Jesus Christ.

Deuteronomy 13:4

“It is the LORD your GOD you must follow, and Him you must revere. Keep His commandment and obey Him; serve Him and hold fast to Him”.

Fearing GOD means; revere Him, honour Him, exalt Him, lift Him up, hold Him high regard, worship Him and hold him in high esteem, obey Him, acknowledge Him, His worthiness and honour His position as creator and judge of all mankind. When you trust LORD Jesus as your saviour, that’s what it means fearing the living GOD.

He is GOD of love, hold him at highest regard, high esteem, to obey Him, to obey Him, to yield to Him, to surrender to Him. He says we are to fear Him.

Psalm 33:8

“Let all the earth fear the LORD; let all the people of the world revere him.”

The scripture says we must fear the living GOD.

Romans 3:10-18

“As it is written:

There is no one righteous, not even one; there is no one who understands; there is no one who seeks God.

All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one.

Their throats are open graves; their tongues practice deceit. The poison of vipers is on their lips.

Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness.

Their feet are swift to shed blood;

ruin and misery mark their ways,

and the way of peace they do not know.

There is no fear of God before their eyes.”

This is the world is. No fear of GOD in their eyes, in their understanding. As they view life and the world no fear of GOD, no honouring GOD. In fact GOD is a problem to them because He gets in their way. Holy GOD does not tolerate sin, holy GOD will not make you live in sin, feel comfortable about it and really enjoy yourself. You may have a brief moment of happiness and joy but very brief because holy GOD hates sin because of what sin does to His children. You may see sin as having a good time, GOD sees sin as a detriment to His plan and purpose in your life.

One day every knee will bow and every tongue will confess Jesus Christ is LORD to the glory of GOD. If you don’t fear GOD you will miss heaven, if you don’t fear GOD you will go to hell. When you turn your back on GOD, you are turning your back onto your only hope, the one who loves you, cares for you and wants the best for you. No matter what you believe you cannot avoid the judgement of holy GOD. He loves you, He gives you enough free will to choose right. If you choose not to love Him, if you choose to die without Him, if you choose to have what you want against His loving will, how foolish. Bible says GOD is holy, we are to walk holy before Him. We are still growing we make a mistake, the only person who is perfect is Christ. Therefore fear Him.

Why we should fear Him;

*Because He requires of us. Deuteronomy 13:4 “It is the LORD your GOD you must follow, and Him you must revere. Keep His commandment and obey Him; serve Him and hold fast to Him”.

*Because it is the beginning of knowledge. Psalm 1:7 “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction”.

*Because it is the beginning of wisdom. Psalm 9:10 “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” Wisdom is knowing what to do, how to do. Believe in what to believe not what to believe.

A wise person is someone in whose life GOD is dwelling through, in whose life GOD is living out the life He intended for that person to be. GOD is GOD of wisdom. He gives His wisdom to those who is willing to ask for Him, willing to surrender their life to Him, willing to yield to Him. GOD gives wisdom to those who seek wisdom from GOD. Wisdom of GOD helps you with every area of our lives.

*Because fear of the LORD keeps us away from evil. Proverbs 16:6 “Through love and faithfulness sin is atoned for; through the fear of the LORD evil is avoided.” When we fear the LORD we don’t want sin in our lives because GOD living within you.

Proverbs 3:7-8 “Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones.” When you honour GOD and fear Him brings health and nourishment to your bones. When you trust LORD Jesus as your saviour your body is the temple of living GOD. If you mistreat your body its mistreating house of GOD. GOD dwells in your body in order to speak through you, to love through, to care through you, for you to enjoy life. When you accept LORD Jesus as your saviour He guarantees your body indwell by the living GOD and best for you.

*Proverbs 14:26 “In the fear of the LORD one has strong confidence, and his children will have a refuge.” Fear of GOD gives confidence, boldness, assuring you will get through it, because you are believer when you face a situation you are not facing by yourself, you are facing it with Him, because He is dwelling within you. You face every single thing in life in the presence of Holy GOD, who loves you and wants the best for you. Fear of GOD is the wisest way to live.

*Psalm 145:19 “He fulfils the desires of those who fear him; he hears their cry and saves them.” When you fear the GOD he says those desires of your heart GOD will answer. If you fear Him, you will desire what He wants you to desire. He wants us to have the desires of our heart.

*Divine protection – Psalm 34:7 “The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them.” When you fear GOD you have awesome divine protection.

*Leads to life – Proverb 19:23 “The fear of the LORD leads to life; then one rests content, untouched by trouble.” The real life, true life. GOD is the source of every blessing. Disobeying GOD is foolishness, its expensive, big disappointment.

*Proverb 10:27 “The fear of the LORD adds length to life, but the years of the wicked are cut short.” He is willing to do so much to do for you if you surrender your life. If you want the best for your children surrender your life to Him, fear Him and live a godly life. That is the most powerful thing you could do to your family.

Nobody ever saved who is not first yield themselves to holy God. We are saved by grace of GOD through blood of LORD Jesus on the cross from that moment on He is dwelling in us. He has the best life for us. He forgives us. He does not change His mind about us. He knows us perfectly. The wisest decision you will ever make is to fear the living GOD, honour Him, obey Him, exalt Him in your life, lift Him up, worship Him and trust Him for your salvation and the moment you believe what He says He is willing to change your life.

GOD so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son LORD Jesus that whoever believes in Him, confesses their sins, surrender their lives to Him will have an everlasting life. Fearing GOD is an awesome blessing, awesome promise. Do you fear Him? Have you surrendered your life to Him?
