Malachi 3:7-10

7Even from the days of your fathers you have gone away from my ordinances, and have not kept them. Return unto me, and I will return unto you, says the LORD of hosts. But you say, How shall we return?

8Will a man rob God? Yet you have robbed me. But you say, How have we robbed you? In tithes and offerings.

9You are cursed with a curse: for you have robbed me, even this whole nation.

10Bring you all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house, and test me now in this, says the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

Why we tithe

*To provide for the work of the LORD

*To prove the faithfulness of GOD

*To pay honour to Him, honouring GOD as the source of all their needs

  1. Failing to tithes is sin of stealing. It belongs to GOD.

Leviticus 27:30

30And all the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land, or of the fruit of the tree, is the LORD’S: it is holy unto the LORD.

The tithe is holy. It is set apart by GOD for GOD for His use. GOD desires us to honour Him.

  1. Dishonouring GOD.

Malachi 1:6-8

6A son honors his father, and a servant his master: if then I be a father, where is my honor? and if I be a master, where is my fear? says the LORD of hosts unto you, O priests, that despise my name. And you say, How have we despised your name?

7You offer polluted bread upon my altar; and you say, How have we polluted you? In that you say, The table of the LORD is contemptible.

8And if you offer the blind for a sacrifice, is it not evil? and if you offer the lame and sick, is it not evil? offer it now unto your governor; will he be pleased with you, or accept your person? says the LORD of hosts.

  1. Denying responsibility.

Malachi 2:17

17You have wearied the LORD with your words. Yet you say, How have we wearied him? When you say, Every one that does evil is good in the sight of the LORD, and he delights in them; or, Where is the God of judgment?

  1. Arrogance, failing to tithe is arrogance.

Malachi 3:13-14

13Your words have been strong against me, says the LORD. Yet you say, What have we spoken so much against you?

14You have said, It is vain to serve God: and what profit is it that we have kept his ordinance, and that we have walked in mourning before the LORD of hosts?

  1. Doubts, any person with sense will not walk away from GOD’s blessing.

The punishment is a curse, curse is a pronouncement judgement of a sin.

9You are cursed with a curse: for you have robbed me, even this whole nation.

In the New Testament the word used for a curse is chastisement. If you disobey GOD you will be reprimanded, chastened, disciplined, whipped.

He disciplines us in the area that we have been disobedient and in light with the truth that we knew about it which makes GOD absolutely fair.

The promises GOD gives to His children if you tithe.

10Bring you all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house, and test me now in this, says the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

*He will prosper us.

*There will be plenty, abundantly.

*I will protect you, His divine protection.

*He will bless you for your obedience so you could be a good testimony.

Luke 6:38

Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your lap. For with the same measure that you measure it shall be measured to you again.

We determine how much we will be blessed by GOD.
