Responding to our opportunities

Posted on 01 Nov 2019

Opportunity is a favourable occasion, when we are in a position to make a decision that will impact our lives in a positive way.

Opportunities often comes as a surprise.

We often miss the opportunities. Opportunity to be able to share LORD Jesus Christ with somebody every time. Don’t let them pass by.

Luke 10:25-37

The Parable of the Good Samaritan

25 On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”

26 “What is written in the Law?” he replied. “How do you read it?”

27 He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’”

28 “You have answered correctly,” Jesus replied. “Do this and you will live.”

29 But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbour?”

30 In reply Jesus said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. 31 A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. 32 So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33 But a Samaritan, as he travelled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. 34 He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him. 35 The next day he took out two denarii[c] and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’

36 “Which of these three do you think was a neighbour to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?”

37 The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.”

Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”

They have not practise what they preach in the temple, love your GOD with all your heart, soul, strength and mind and love your neighbour. It reveals that they were selfish, self-centred, their priorities were mixed up. They were not practising what they were preaching.

Our opportunities are from GOD and the way we response those opportunities reveal who we are, what we really are. GOD gives us opportunities to honour Him and help somebody else.

Can I help you?

Can I pray for you?

Is there something I can help you with?

Opportunities reveal;

< Do I have discernment? If I am really following LORD Jesus I am busy for GOD given opportunity. GOD speaks says this is the opportunity. People hurting all around you probably more than ever before and looking for sympathy.

< Is LORD Jesus the LORD of my life? It reveals, GOD offers you a chance to change somebody’s life.

< Am I ready to utilise my spiritual gits? There are people in desperate need, they are hurting very deeply and they need some encouragement and attention. Your willingness is to exercise your spirit, you may give exhortation, opportunity to say to them something very comforting, very assuring, and sometime that may simply be I have been there I will pray for you, if you need me, you call me.

< Am I willing to give to others? Time, attention, money. Be alert and sober for the opportunities. GOD gave you capacity, abilities, gifts to make you a vessel and we cannot afford to overlook those opportunities.

< Do I have the courage to step into difficult situations and speak to people? Share with them the gospel of LORD Jesus Christ. When you step into an opportunity that’s will of GOD. It is not your responsibility to what they think or how they respond. You have been obedient to GOD that’s what matters.

< Do I believe GOD will enable me to meet needs? It’s the power and spirit of GOD that lives within us that enables us to help people. Holy Spirit will teach at the same hour what to say.

< It will reveal whether I have a servant spirit? A servant spirit will step into the opportunity whatever the opportunity might be. We live to serve the living GOD. We should all exercise our spiritual gifts as a servant.

The opportunities should motivate us. GOD would like us to share the truth that save the whole world.

Pray to LORD to make you sensitive to the opportunities you have and give you the courage to step in. You will be happier, you will have more peace and self-satisfaction. Give yourself away, don’t keep yourself to yourself. He saved us so other people lives will be changed.

< What are my priorities? Help someone who is in need. Be sensitive to people who are hurting. If you are the child of GOD you have privilege and spiritual gifts and enabling of the Holy Spirit to help you to enable you to meet people needs that you never thought about before.

27 He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’” Luke 10:27

Matthew 7:12

12So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.

We live with an opportunity every day. You start in your house, in your home.

You can say the right thing, at the right way, at the right time and change their life.

< Do I operate out of fear or faith? Sometime an opportunity might be dangerous, operate out of faith do not fear. An opportunity is GOD given He wants to use you in some way some fashion to help somebody to give courage to somebody to have an impact in somebodies life. Have courage to step in every time.

If you don’t love your neighbour something is not right with the first part.

You have the opportunity right now. If you are without Christ you are living in sin, it is a rebellion towards GOD. If you die in that state you will be eternally separated from GOD, if you are willing to confess that you are a sinner and acknowledge LORD Jesus Christ death at the cross paid your sin in full and you have the opportunity of being forgiven of all your sin no matter what and you have the opportunity and asking Him forgiveness and accept LORD Jesus Christ for your personal Saviour.

If you take the opportunity presented at this moment it will radically change your mind, you will begin to live a life you never knew it existed with confidence. Bible says absent from the body present with the LORD. You have an opportunity for GOD to change your life right now. If you accept LORD Jesus Christ as your Saviour you will take the greatest opportunity you will ever take because it is the opportunity that has eternal consequences.
