Brokenness is GOD’s way of dealing with self-life that part of us desires within us act independently of GOD’s will, purpose and plan for our life. Through brokenness He brings us our physical body, our soul, mind, will, emotions and consciousness into submission to indwelling presence of Holy Spirit who is there residing within us for the purpose of guiding and controlling our life. GOD goes about breaking us in systematic fashion.
Luke 22:54-62
54Then seizing him, they led him away and took him into the house of the high priest. Peter followed at a distance. 55And when some there had kindled a fire in the middle of the courtyard and had sat down together, Peter sat down with them. 56A servant girl saw him seated there in the firelight. She looked closely at him and said, “This man was with him.”
57But he denied it. “Woman, I don’t know him,” he said.
58A little later someone else saw him and said, “You also are one of them.”
“Man, I am not!” Peter replied.
59About an hour later another asserted, “Certainly this fellow was with him, for he is a Galilean.”
60Peter replied, “Man, I don’t know what you’re talking about!” Just as he was speaking, the rooster crowed. 61The Lord turned and looked straight at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word the Lord had spoken to him: “Before the rooster crows today, you will disown me three times.” 62 And he went outside and wept bitterly.
LORD Jesus has chosen us for what He can see within us, the potential of becoming in LORD Jesus Christ.
Peter’s life is an example of brokenness. GOD is getting him ready for the work GOD called him to do.
*GOD targets the area of our life in which we need to be broken. We all have strength and weaknesses. He targets the area where there is a need in our life that hinders GOD wants us to become. He targets the hindrance, He looks at the area in our life, what we value the most. He sees it as a hindrance and GOD removes it from our life because He wants us to rely only upon Him.
Matthew 14:28
28“Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.”
Matthew 16:21-23
21From that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.
22Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. “Never, Lord!” he said. “This shall never happen to you!”
23Jesus turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.”
Matthew 18:21-22
21Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?”
22Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.
John 13:5-7
5After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him.
6He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, “Lord, are you going to wash my feet?”
7Jesus replied, “You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.”
Matthew 26:31-33
31Then Jesus told them, “This very night you will all fall away on account of me, for it is written:
“ ‘I will strike the shepherd,
and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’
32But after I have risen, I will go ahead of you into Galilee.”
33Peter replied, “Even if all fall away on account of you, I never will.”
Luke 22:50
50And one of them struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his right ear.
LORD saw pride, impulsiveness, and rebellions in Peter’s life. LORD Jesus started to deal with these in Peter’s life.
*GOD arranges the circumstances in which we are to be broken. Sometime He puts it all together in order for us to be broken. Sometime GOD allows us, sees us, we will get into position by our own actions and moves whereby the Spirit of GOD begins to breaks us. Either way GOD is behind the process. He does not want us to rely upon anyone else or anything but Him.
*GOD choses the tools to break us. They are beyond our control, we don’t do the choosing GOD does. GOD tools chosen to break us are; appointed, very sharp, painful, cause great hurt and suffering.
In life of Peter LORD Jesus has chosen His words. Sometime GOD uses as tools, the most precious thing in our life to break us. Because GOD knows your potential. Sometime He uses our enemies to break us.
*GOD controls the pressure in the process of being broken. The quicker we realise what GOD is working on to break in our life and we give it up, the quicker we will get out of it. After being broken GOD will exalt us at the proper time.
It took Peter 3 years to be broken. “And he went outside and wept bitterly. “After 3 years of Christ Jesus working on him, finally broken and shattered, LORD transformed him and he is exalted as the rock, he became tremendous leader that started out the church. He has written;
1 Peter 5:5-6
5In the same way, you who are younger, submit yourselves to your elders. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because,
“God opposes the proud
but shows favour to the humble.”
