Brokenness is GOD’s method of dealing with self-life that part of us desires to act independently of GOD. He targets those areas that hindering His purpose, will for our life. Then having targeted them, He arranges the circumstances for our brokenness, He chooses the tool by which to be broken and He controls the pressure as we are broken and each part of our life brought into submission to His will.
One of the reason the brokenness is a painful experience often times causes suffering is that GOD deals with us in brokenness on a level that very deep. He deals with us on a deep emotional level, on a deep spiritual level and as result He is after control of our life and the last thing we want to surrender is the control of our life to anybody GOD included.
2 Corinthians 12:7-10
7And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.
8For this thing I besought the Lord three times that it might depart from me.
9And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for you: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather boast in my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
10Therefore I take pleasure in weaknesses, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.
When Apostle Paul was called and saved by the LORD suddenly in a dramatic, life changing miraculous experience which was totally beyond his understanding. So he went away to be alone with GOD for 3 years. Most likely during that time GOD revealed him the truth that He never revealed to anybody else. Yet he was persecuted one after another. Everywhere he went he found himself facing all kinds of apposition and got rejected.
Galatians 1:17
I did not go up to Jerusalem to see those who were apostles before I was, but I went into Arabia. Later I returned to Damascus.
*GOD brought him to a point that he cannot live his Christian life with his own strength.
Romans 7:14-15
14We know that the law is spiritual; but I am unspiritual, sold as a slave to sin. 15I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do.
*GOD sent this thorn in the flesh in order to protect him to keep him exalting himself.
2 Corinthians 12:7
7And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.
We cannot live the Christian life with our own strength other than depending on the Holy Spirit. Living the Christian life with our own strength other than depending on the Holy Spirit brings us humiliating failure, fruitlessness, waste and uselessness.
He brings us to brokenness so that we walk in intimate oneness with Him and we may serve Him effectively.
GOD only breaks us in love. When He arranges the circumstances, chooses the tools and the pressure, He does it in love. In order to break down our resistance, rebellion and self-will so we walk in submission to His will so our work will be holy and our work will be effective for our future service. Brokenness brought about so the future usefulness is GOD’s priority. In chastisement GOD disciplines the believer, it is an immediate change so that we walk in holiness.
Brokenness and chastisement are for believers, punishment for unbelievers only. Because the unbeliever rejected the sin bearer our LORD Jesus Christ therefore they must bear their own sin.
*Brokenness producing for us eternal glory, building character, forming Christ likeness in our spirit, shaping us moulding us in what GOD wants us to be in, preparing us for the future service for Him. Ask GOD what He sees in our heartache, pain, rejection and sorrow, what is He up to?
2 Corinthians 4:16-18
16Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. 17For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. 18So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
*GOD sets limitation in our brokenness, on the time, on the intensity of pain, on the hurt we experience.
Rule 1; when our will is broken; our body, soul and spirit is in submission to GOD’s will. That process ceases at the moment or before the spirit is broken. GOD will never breaks our spirit. At that moment GOD stops, halts the process.
Rule 2; the process of brokenness ceases at the point in which vanish GOD’s great purpose in your life.
Even in brokenness there is a limitations to our suffering. When we are weakest, we experience GOD’s great power in our life.
*GOD deepens our understanding in our brokenness. We get different perspective of GOD, we see the ways of GOD how He works in our life, and we get deeper understanding of His love, what it means to accept us on the basis of the fact that He is a loving Father. We understand His acceptance of us on the basis of cross, we understand His patience and love, kindness and forbearance and He puts up with us while we are in the process.
*We began to see ourselves in a way that we have never seen before, we began to see our thought patterns. GOD’s goal is to bring us in oneness with Him and bring us into effective service for Him. Help us to see what He sees, the more we see more we wonder about His grace.
*We began to see other people differently. Your critical and judgemental spirit, negative attitude fades away, you began to look upon them compassionately because we have been there. All of a sudden that love of LORD Jesus which is in us began to express itself. Everything takes on whole different perspective. The power of sin broken and you are set free.
GOD never deserts us in our season of brokenness. LORD Jesus says “I will never leave you nor forsake you” Hebrews 13:5.
*GOD will never allow anything or anyone we depend upon, we may feel so alone and fearful. All of us far more dependant than we think we are. GOD wants such intimacy, oneness with Him, that everybody else in your life will take lower place to Him. GOD wants our relationship to be healthy. Our needs met by GOD therefore I don’t have to lean, find security in relationship in somebody else because now I am emotionally healthy person my needs are met by GOD therefore I don’t have to lean or find my security in relationship I find my security in Him. He is all sufficient for all thing. Now I can back off and have wonderful relationship with somebody. That releases them from pressure, releases me from pressure. That brings wonderful relationship and respect for one another. Ask yourself am I willing to suffer the pain to get into position. It is most liberating, awesome experience to be free where you and LORD Jesus and all other relationships are healthy.
*GOD is always patience with us during our experience with brokenness. Sometime it is a process last very long time. GOD understands where we are.
*The length of time depend on what GOD is trying to break us from and it is determine by our response. The greater your potential to GOD is the greater your suffering, the main and intensity of the hurt because GOD has something in mind for you.
*GOD will lead you to victory through brokenness if I am willing to submit to His will. The whole brokenness process is expression of love.
GOD will complete the work He started in you.
Philippians 1:6
6being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
Romans 7:24-25
24What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death? 25Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!
“for when I am weak, then am I strong” 2 Corinthians 12:10.
If you want GOD to bring you where our service will be effective and glorifying GOD and we will have an intimate relationship with Him, then the brokenness is key.
Remember whatever GOD does, He only does it in love and when He bring you through the valley you will be the brightest sunshine and the horizon you ever know in your Christian life.
