The suicide impact on believers

Posted on 01 Nov 2019

One of the worst event going on in the society that most people are not aware of it is suicide. How this could happen in a society as educated, as blessed, as wealthy? Yet it is one of the most devastating event in today’s society. Here are some facts;

One person every minute either commit suicide or attempts to do so.

It is so devastating that more people commit suicide than are killed in car crashes.

In the lives of people, ages 15 to 24 suicide is the third cause of death.

Over half of all suicides occur in men, ages 25 to 65. One out of 65,000 children ages 10 to 14 commits suicide.

There are four male suicides for every female suicide.

From 2011 to 2012 suicides in the US military increased by 16 percent.

In 2012 more than 349 members of US military committed suicide.

What is wrong in the society that so many people are taking their lives when so much life to be had? In spite of all the difficulties around us we are the one of the most blessed nation in the world. There are still opportunities, prosperity out there, there is still a meaning to life, yet it is happening before us.

The underlying cause of it is depression.

In scripture there are 7 instances where someone committed suicide. Here is one of them;

Matthew 27:1-5

Judas Hangs Himself

27 Early in the morning, all the chief priests and the elders of the people made their plans how to have Jesus executed. 2 So they bound him, led him away and handed him over to Pilate the governor.

3 When Judas, who had betrayed him, saw that Jesus was condemned, he was seized with remorse and returned the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and the elders. 4 “I have sinned,” he said, “for I have betrayed innocent blood.”

“What is that to us?” they replied. “That’s your responsibility.”

5 So Judas threw the money into the temple and left. Then he went away and hanged himself.

State of confusion, frustration, anxiety, fear, desperation and despair.

We who believers have the strength of Almighty GOD living within us. We have the Word of GOD with us therefore we have the source of strength to live through any circumstances in life but many people around us do not. We need to be very sensitive to people around us so we could help them.

Reasons people consider suicide;

Commitment to a cause

A love pact

Feeling that life has become meaningless

Feeling hopeless

Unbearable physical pain

Emotional pain

Vengeance

Suicide affects;

The person who commits suicide

The family

The whole community

Guilt, frustration, anxiety are the feelings of people who are left behind.

The Biblical view of suicide;

-It is a violation of the sixth commandment, not to murder. “You shall not murder.” Exodus 20:13.

55 million babies have been murdered by abortion. GOD will not ignore that. He cannot ignore that kind of rebellion and be the GOD of justice, righteousness, purity, love, goodness and mercies. He loves those babies.

-The Bible nowhere condones suicide.

-It is a form of escape for the reasons above whether it is a pain or vengeance.

-It is an expression of unbelief says that GOD is not loving and faithful. GOD is omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent. We are in His presence at all times. He does not change.

-It is an expression of ingratitude toward GOD. It is a privilege that you have been given life.

-It is an expression of self-hatred.

-Usurps the power GOD. If we do something that violets the Word of GOD there is a penalty and taking your own life is saying to GOD I will do it my way. You are taking the life GOD has given you and destroying it.

GOD has a will and plan for all of us. GOD allows pain in our life to cleanse us, to change our mind and attitude on something that is not right, to teach us something. The question we should ask what GOD is up to in my life. GOD wants us to stand firm in truth, rooted and grounded in the Word of GOD. If GOD is allowing it for some reason we should trust Him.

Romans 8:28

28And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

-It is an expression of selfishness.

-Hurts the cause of Christ.

-It is a sin but it is not unpardonable but that doesn’t give you any room to commit suicide. GOD brought you this life for a specific reason. LORD Jesus Christ died for all sins. Once you trust LORD Jesus Christ as your Saviour you are eternally secured in the grace of GOD. There will be a judgement and there will be rewards.

Hebrews 9:27

27And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:

Matthew 12:30-32

30He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad.

The Unpardonable Sin

(Mark 3:28-30)

31Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men. 32And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.

The reason we are saved because the Holy Spirit of GOD convicted of our sins, showed us the truth, helped us to understand the truth and He is the one enabled us to become a believer. When you are an unbeliever and reject the LORD Jesus Christ you will not be saved because GOD will not forgive that. That is the only unpardonable sin.

Suicide is pardonable but it is destructive in the ways we cannot even explain and the attitude towards GOD and the consequences of it disastrous. It does not fit who you are. No matter what you are going through Almighty GOD is there to help you.

Share with someone considering suicide;

*Remind them that GOD knows all about their circumstances and He is committed to help them to go through it.

*GOD loves you just as you are and He is willing to see you through it step by step.

*You must trust Christ as your personal Saviour then He will become your Friend and your Pardoner in life. Without LORD Jesus Christ you are not going to make it. When you trust LORD Jesus Christ He forgives you all your sins. He comes to dwell within you to help you, to enable you, overshadow you, guide you, surround you, whatever necessary He will help you through it. You not only have a Friend you have Almighty GOD on your side.
