When facing storms in our life

Posted on 01 Nov 2019

We all face storms in our life. They come in one of three forms physical, emotional or spiritual. That’s part of life. We live in a fallen world, sin entered into the world, everything has changed.

We have to learn how to adjust to the storms of our life because they are keep coming, always has been that way since Adam and Eve fallen in the Garden of Eden and it will always be that way till LORD Jesus comes. We will be facing all kinds of storms, we either learn how to face them, how to survive them or defeated by them.

Do we know how to respond, do we know how to come out victoriously as a result of storm?

If GOD allows storm in your life its ultimate purpose is to bring you out stronger.

Many storms are as result of sin in our lives. GOD wants to bring a change in your life about something.

The issue is how to respond to them.

2 Timothy 1:1-7

1Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, according to the promise of life which is in Christ Jesus,

2To Timothy, my dearly beloved son: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.

Timothy’s Family of Faith

3I thank God, whom I serve from my forefathers with pure conscience, that without ceasing I have remembrance of you in my prayers night and day;

4Greatly desiring to see you, being mindful of your tears, that I may be filled with joy;

5When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in you, which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois, and your mother Eunice; and I am persuaded in you also.

Use Your Gift to Serve God

6Therefore I remind you that you stir up the gift of God, which is in you by the laying on of my hands.

7For God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

8Be not therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;

9Who has saved us, and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,

He is saying inflamed the gift of GOD within you because he was discouraged. All of us if you trusted LORD Jesus Christ as your Saviour has the Spirit of Christ within you.

Consequences of fear during storms;

-Stifles our capacity to think and act wisely

-Causes us to be indecisive

-Diminishes our capacity to accomplish tasks

Not all trials are as result of sin, trials come because you are a believer, there is going to be separation, critism, misunderstanding.

-Undermines our sense of self-confidence

-Tormented by our emotions

Do not forget the original cause. Sometime GOD allows very difficult situations in life to grow us up. You are not going to have everything in your way because you are a believer. LORD Jesus is a prince of peace also the sourse of conflict in our relationship with people who don’t believe what we believe.

Resouces GOD provides in our storms;

Whatever you are facing in life you have 3 resources that are adequate whatever the situation you are facing; they are divine from GOD and they are encouraging.

GOD has given us power, love and discipline.

-The power of the Holy Spirit. He came to seal you as a child of GOD, also to empower you, enable you to live a godly life. Every single believer within her/him has power to live godly life. You need to kindle that, stir the truth up.

LORD Jesus said “I will never leave you nor forsake you”. He said I will be there for you.

-Love. Often time we get discouraged and we do not feel loved. When you are walking in the Spirit of GOD, love of GOD will be in your heart. That love goes two ways, love from GOD for you. GOD’s relationship for you will never fall apart. You have the love of GOD within you.

-Sound mind which is disciplined life. A disciplined life is an ordered life. It is a life that under control. It is a life that faces difficulty, hardship, trials, trouble, conflict, separation whatever might be and still stands unmoved. Because you are resting in the power of GOD and love of GOD for you. Whatever goes on, whatever suffering and the storm may be you can still stand. A disciplined life is a life committed to Almighty GOD and does not waver with the winds or with the false doctrines. GOD has given us a relationship with Him that is adequate any storm that comes our way.

Trust GOD, He will make your way clear, He will give you sense of confidence, boldness and assurance. You can stand anything that comes your way if you are obedient to GOD. The storms has many origins but there is only one answer that is our Heavenly Father through the Holy Spirit, His love, His ability to work in our lives to live our lives in a way that settled on the Word, sound mind and disciplined life. A disciplined life, takes the heat, takes the storms no matter what comes its immovable because its sealed with the Holy Spirit, feel with the Holy Spirit and adequate with the Holy Spirit.

If you have not trusted LORD Jesus as your Saviour none of this counts. You have been trying to live in a world of conflict, sin, disobedience, rebellion and all the other things without Him. You say LORD I have rebelled against you, I have ignored you, I am asking you on the basis of your promise, you say if we confess our sins, you are faithful and just to forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. I am confessing my sin, I am agreeing with you, I live in sin. I am asking you to forgive me and I repent of my sins, I turn away from it. I am turning to you as my only hope and I am asking you on this day forward by your strength, your energy, your power, your discipline, I choose to live a godly life, I want to get into your Word, I want you to teach me your Truth, here is my life LORD GOD.

It is a choice you make. This world will not change except for worse. If you think things will get better and you will be able to live the way you live are living. You are in for a mistake. Sin is sin. The world we live in is wicked, the devil is loose, unbelievable things are happening and we have one hope, one assurance and that’s found in personal relationship with LORD Jesus Christ. Otherwise you will get deeper and deeper in the sin and no where to go. It’s foolish. When you have been offered the gift of love of GOD, presence of love of GOD, the power of a loving GOD, the provisions of love of GOD if you simply surrender your life to Him and ask Him to do it, amen.
