1 Samuel 18:5-9

5And David went out wherever Saul sent him, and behaved himself wisely: and Saul set him over the men of war, and he was accepted in the sight of all the people, and also in the sight of Saul’s servants.

6And it came to pass as they came, when David was returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, that the women came out of all cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet king Saul, with timbrels, with joy, and with instruments of music.

7And the women sang to one another as they played, and said, Saul has slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands.

8And Saul was very angry, and the saying displeased him; and he said, They have ascribed unto David ten thousands, and to me they have ascribed but thousands: and what can he have more but the kingdom?

9And Saul eyed David from that day forward.

Misdirected desire is jealousy.

Jealousy is emotion of displeasure upon seeing someone else’s good fortune. Uncontrollable desire for someone else’s possession, privilege or position that causes you discomfort and pain.

When Bible speaks about GOD being jealous is that GOD deserves all the honour, all the glory and praise due to Him as a Creator. He is to be worshipped. Praised and served. GOD desire for us our best, protects us, cares for us. He does not want anything in our life that will destroy us or hurt us. It is an expression of GOD’s love for us.

What are the causes of jealousy?

Insecurity.

Often the person who is jealous is that the person is not willing to pay the price.

They see the person as threat.

Selfishness in their own heart.

Pride.

The person who is jealous becomes critical, unhappy due to their own sense of failure.

When a person is jealous it shows in their attitude they are;

Suspicious

Confused

Bitterness

Angry

Hostel

Anxious
